Little Church - Big Mission
Throughout the year a million-plus tourists come to Salem. We seek to bless these visitors in gentle, life affirming, and Christo-centric ways. We share our love for God, entertain in family friendly settings, and sometimes just make friends. These are things we believe Jesus wants us to do in Salem.
Simultaneously, we train hundreds of people each year to be culturally aware, and yet wildly creative with their sharing of God's love. Our events have been featured in the Dallas Morning News, the front page of the Salem News and Salem Gazette, local papers throughout the US and Caribbean, on radio shows in the United States and Britain, and even on the front page of the Wall Street Journal.
This year, we will hosting live music on the streets of salem each weekend in October. Musicians and friends from the community will be helping us. Mamadou Diop, Aaron Katz, Paul Duffy and a host of other entertainers and performers. Friends will be joining us from North Carolina, California, Maine, and who knows else where to work with us in October.
Little Church - Huge Hurdles
Being a friendly church toward all people is not an easy thing in a city known for its battles. Christians fought the Witches, and the Witches fought back. Both the Witches and the Christians fought the city, and the city fought back. This did not seem like the ways of the Peacemaker Whom we follow, so we sought to make friends. Unfortunately, making peace while standing in the battle zone is a tough job, but it is a work more than worth the effort.
Little Church - Big Dreams
Over the last 17 years, our small church as carried the load of creating some of the largest events in the city of Salem. Dozens of churches, and hundreds of individual Christians have benefited from having a post from which to share God's love during the wildly busy tourist season. Recently, The Salem Chamber of Commerce, Salem State University, Plummer Home for Boys, The Village Tavern, Naumkeag Ordinary and dozens of friends around the US have joined hands with us to help bring the arts to the our community.
Gathering Around the World: micro-church development
Each year, The Gathering organizes a teams of friends to create art, hold philosophy discussions, interpret dreams, and simply build relationships of help and healing inside festivals around the world.
Burning Man, Burning Nest, Stonehenge at the Solstice, HowTheLightGetsIn, Rainbow Gatherings, Haunted Happenings in Salem and other locations are part of this mission. You can support this through prayer, giving, or by joining us in these endeavors.
